Equipment

  • Large pot for cooking spaghetti

  • Colander for draining spaghetti

  • Large skillet or frying pan

  • Knife and cutting board for chopping garlic and parsley

  • Stirring spoon

Ingredients

  • 200g of spaghetti

  • 300g of fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 5 cloves of garlic, finely minced

  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

  • A pinch of red pepper flakes

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped for garnish

  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

1

Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2

While the spaghetti is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

3

Add the garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet and sauté until the garlic is golden brown.

4

Add the shrimp and cook until they are pink and opaque, which should take about 2-3 minutes on each side.

5

Toss the cooked spaghetti into the skillet with the shrimp and garlic. Mix well to combine.

6

Season with salt and garnish with fresh parsley.

7

Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

Using quality ingredients is key. Opt for fresh shrimp as it's sweeter and more tender compared to the frozen variant. For the garlic, I suggest using fresh cloves instead of garlic powder as it imparts a more robust flavor. Don’t shy away from using a generous amount of garlic as it's the hero of the dish. Olive oil should be of good quality as it combines all the flavors together. Lastly, cooking the shrimp just right is crucial - overcooking can make them rubbery. A quick sauté until they turn pink is perfect.
