  • A large pot for boiling pasta

  • A colander for draining pasta

  • A large skillet or frying pan

  • A stirring spoon

  • A knife and cutting board for mincing garlic

  • 12 ounces of pasta (spaghetti or linguine)

  • 1 pound of fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1 cup of basil pesto (homemade or store-bought)

  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: Fresh basil, Parmesan cheese, pine nuts for garnish

Start by boiling a large pot of salted water and cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

While the pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Add the shrimp to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until they are pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes on each side.

Lower the heat, add the pesto to the skillet and stir until the shrimp are coated.

Toss in the cooked pasta and mix well until everything is combined.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil, Parmesan cheese, and pine nuts if desired.

Selecting the freshest shrimp is vital; look for those that are firm, clean, and don't smell fishy. When it comes to pesto, homemade is always better. Fresh basil, quality olive oil, and good Parmesan cheese make all the difference. If using store-bought pesto, opt for a brand with minimal preservatives. Cook the pasta just until al dente to ensure it doesn't get mushy. Lastly, don’t overcook the shrimp; a couple of minutes on each side is enough.
