  • Wok or large skillet

  • Sharp knife

  • Cutting board

  • Mixing bowls

  • Measuring cups and spoons

  • Stirring spoon

  • 500g boneless, skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

  • 2 green onions, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Start by marinating the chicken in a mixture of soy sauce, garlic, and ginger for 30 minutes.

In a wok or large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over high heat.

Add the chicken pieces and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown.

In a separate bowl, mix the hoisin sauce, water, and brown sugar.

Lower the heat to medium and add the sauce to the chicken.

If using cornstarch, mix it with a tablespoon of water and add it to the pan.

Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce has thickened.

Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

A great Mongolian Chicken dish requires a few key tips. Firstly, marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Use a sharp knife to cut the chicken into uniform pieces to ensure even cooking. When stir-frying, use high heat but be mindful not to overcook the chicken as it can become dry. Lastly, adding cornstarch is optional, but it gives the sauce a glossy finish and a thicker consistency.
