  • A pot or saucepan with a lid

  • A colander for rinsing and draining

  • A measuring cup

  • A fork for fluffing


  • 1 cup of basmati rice

  • 1.5 to 2 cups of water

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt (optional)



Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove any excess starch.


Soak the rice in fresh water for about 30 minutes.


Drain the rice and add it to a pot. Add water and salt, if using.


Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat.


Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed.
