Equipment

  • Large pan

  • Mixing bowl

  • Spoon or spatula

  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 500g ground turkey

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 can coconut milk

  • 2 tbsp curry powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • Fresh coriander for garnish

  • Optional: Chili flakes for an extra kick

Instructions

1

Start by preparing the meatballs: In a bowl, combine the ground turkey, chopped onions, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.

2

Form into small balls and set aside.

3

In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides. Once browned, remove and set aside.

4

In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed, then add the curry powder and turmeric. Cook for a minute to release the flavors.

5

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for another minute.

6

Slowly add the coconut milk, stirring continuously.

7

Once the sauce starts to simmer, add the meatballs back into the pan.

8

Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the meatballs to absorb the flavors.

9

Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.

Notes

I would like to share a few tips that can elevate your dish. Firstly, make sure not to over-mix the meatball mixture as it can result in a dense texture. For the curry, sautéing the onions and garlic until golden brown ensures a deep flavor profile. When adding spices, do it in stages and taste as you go to strike the right balance. Coconut milk can be substituted with yogurt or regular milk for a different texture and taste. Finally, letting the meatballs simmer in the curry sauce for a bit longer helps them soak up the flavors, but be cautious not to overcook them.
